A Hero's Come Back

Clark frowned at his question, "What do you mean in here?" He asked

"No I mean in general. I has to have been more than a year and a half since I last saw you... and I doubt you were there after my accident. I'm actually not sure if you even knew before I told you." Bruce took a deep breath, "We seem to get so caught up in the chase of villains and other things like that... but what about Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent, we lose ourselves to the costumes far too often, Clark. I see that now."

Clark nodded in understanding, "I only heard about your accident before I got taken here, you're right though sometimes our persona's do make it more difficult to lead normal lives. I wish sometimes we didn't have to hide our identities but if we ever revealed ourselves it would be like here. One thing is for sure if we ever get out of here, we should hang out more." He said.

"I agree, maybe you should get a side-kick and pretend we're bringing our side-kicks on Training Mission, when in actuality we're bringing them as play-dates." Bruce snorted, "God, Tim would hate me so much for that... He's a huge fan of you, y'know?"

Clark coughed and was grateful that he wasn't drinking something "Oh really? Well I'll have to find a side kick." He said and rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

Bruce nodded, "I was going to say, Kara. But I assume she's not coming home with us, is she?" He said, thinking he knew that she'd leave with her husband to his world.

Clark shrugged, "I doubt it after all she has her own family now I can't ask that of her." He said silently, he would miss his cousin though.

Bruce sighed, "It's for the best, after all. Just... it's going to be hard without her, isn't it? She's you're only relative..." Bruce frowned slightly, "You need kids, Clark. Seriously, they change you. Plus you'll have more relatives." Bruce was trying to make a joke, but failing horribly.

Clark bit his lip, "I was thinking I might be able to have a future with Shayera but now she's gone." He said sadly and then clenched his fists, "Oliver killed her, and I swear I will have revenge." He said in a tone that he rarely used.

Bruce looked at him, "Shayera is dead?" Bruce's mouth turned to a frown, "Guess we both lost someone to this damnable place, but Clark you cannot stoop down to his level. It doesn't make what he did any better." Bruce walked up to Clark putting a hand on his shoulder, "You cannot hurt him or kill him, it's not what Shayera would've wanted... well she might have she was violent..." He whispered the last part out, he didn't want Clark hurting others because of his misery. He's stop Clark and any and all costs.

Clark nodded slowly, "All I can see is his face and what he said to her.....he made her suffer. Shayera deserved better, I'm sorry about Selina Bruce." He added.

Bruce's face twitched, "You'd think I'd stop going with women after the last four were killed." Bruce sighed, "I'm sad she's gone and I know she loved me but... I never really loved her. I mean at one point I did, but she was the reason I was in my accident and as much as I praise forgive and forget... I couldn't forget. You can't forget something like that." Bruce shook his head, wanting the memories to slip from his mind.

Clark nodded, "But you're a father, what are you going to do about your daughter?" He asked genuinely curious to know Bruce's answer.

Bruce paused, he opened his mouth and then closed it, "Honestly? I don't know. By the time I even get back... how old will she be? Maybe... I let Barbara keep her, Babs always wanted to be a mother but she can't anymore, not after what happened." Bruce closed his eyes, "Maybe... this was for the best, coming here I mean. It's given me a lot of time to think and reflect on what I'm really doing with my life."

Clark nodded, "I know what you mean in the time that I've been here, I've come to see humanity at its worst. With the collars that we wear, we can't fight back I don't know what's worse killing Villains or being stuck here." He said

"What's worse? They're pushing heroes moral backgrounds, they're trying to break us Clark. That's what I believe they did with the Green Arrow. They broke him and he chose the darker way to lead life." Bruce breathed out, "Happier topic shall we?"

Clark nodded, "Right uh, any ideas for a side kick that I could have?" He asked.

"Uh, I have no idea." Bruce moved his hands and shrugged, "I can let you borrow Tim for the door, I'm sure he'd love it?" Bruce questioned out loud, "Or I might not, knowing him he'll stare at you the entire time and come back telling me how much I better I could be with powers." Bruce shook his head, "You know, then again it wouldn't be the first time..." Bruce raised his shoulder, "Well... why not take out..." Bruce paused trying to think, "It's hard trying to think of a side-kick for the perfect man, it would just make the poor side-kick look like crap." Bruce paused, "That didn't come out right, uh what I meant to say was..." Bruce fumbled with his words, trying to save him from his fault.

Clark raised an eyebrow, "Did I just hear Bruce give me a compliment? Bruce I am far from perfect, heck all of the Justice League looks up to you more then me. As far as I'm concerned, you're the best wing man I know of you've saved my life more times then I can count." He said

Bruce raised an eyebrow, "They look up to me because I take charge. If they don't listen to me they know they'll die. As unfortunate as it sounds it happens." He paused soaking in Clark's compliment, "I think you mean leader, if anything you're the wing me." Bruce laughed lightly, "Seriously, though. I can't fly so how and I be a wing man? If anything Hawk Man would be it." Bruce nodded, "I remember the one time I had to perform surgery on you, the kryptonite was close to your heart and ready to kill you and all you did was laugh at how Alfred guarded the Bat Cave entrance with a shotgun... You told me to buy a sense of humor even though I was so worried about losing my best friend."

Clark smiled at Bruce, "Good thing you took my advice, and thanks for getting that kryptonite out it meant a lot to me. I consider you my best friend too Bruce, when I heard you had gotten injured I was on my to Gotham but that's when I got taken. I'm sorry I couldn't be there to help you when you have always helped me." He said

Bruce looked down, a sighed escaped his lips, "No one could help me. It's was beyond a miracle I survived. It was my fault and I stupid. I let emotions hinder what Batman is to people. Fearless, emotionless, and does everything for the greater good... and I was too clouded by everything that was happening to begin to even fathom what was before it did. I may blame Selina, since I was after her... but all in all I guess I'm the one to blame. This is why I can't be as carefree as you are most days Clark. Being care-free gets me in a coma. Being care-free gets you a key to the city or on my sun-bed... which don't ask me why I have because it's a long story."

Clark nodded and then leaned back, "Wait you had a sunbed??" He asked and then coughed at Bruce's look. So what do you plan to do if you ever get out of here?" He asked curiously.

Bruce frowned, "Yes I had a sun-bed in the bat cave. Just incase you ever got yourself hurt, sunny-boy." When Clark started speaking again Bruce let a smirk rise on his face, "Of course, I'm working on it. Also, the collars are turned off for the next two days if you weren't already aware of it." Bruce folded his arms once more, truly wondering if the Man of Steel had known.

Bruce heard glass break, his head turned quickly to the side, "You heard that, Clark?" Bruce didn't stop to think for a moment, he knew Clark would follow as he ran towards the place where the glass broke.
