Ororo was born in New York City but moved to Egypt with her parents a year later.
At age 11, she lost her parents when a jet crashed into their house, burying it under tons of rubble. She survived but developed a huge case of claustrophobia. Many years later, she is taught and recruited by Professor X to become a teacher at his institute for mutant control.
